Science Behind the Art
My research focuses on the neuroscience of learning and memory. In other words, what happens in the brain when we learn and forget? To me, it is fascinating—and much of my art comes from this curiosity.
Molecules
In these paintings, I explore the beauty of chemical structures in colourful flowers and birds. Each painting’s caption tells you which molecule it represents. You can also ask me to paint your favourite structure!
Neurons and synapses
I have become enamoured with the delicate elegance of neural cells and their synaptic connections. In my paintings, memories appear as fleeting birds and flowers floating around the shapes of neurons and synapses.
Remembering
Remembering is a fascinating process. In Portraits of remembrance, I show the different emotions people can go through when recollecting a memory. The birds represent memories, interacting with people in different ways.
These are artistic metaphors, rather than literal illustrations of how memories are stored.
